Project Abstract
How does the way that one expresses gratitude affect one’s relationship? This study will examine differences in the expression of gratitude in romantic couples. This project utilized a 3-week longitudinal 2(Method) x 2(Topic) between- subjects experimental design. Over the course of 3 weeks, participants either expressed written gratitude about their partner, expressed verbal gratitude about their partner to their partner, expressed general written gratitude, or expressed general verbal gratitude to their partner. Participants were then asked to complete measures of relationship satisfaction, interpersonal closeness, and satisfaction of needs scale. No significant effects were found. Results show the method and topic of sharing gratitude have no impact on our variables.
