Abstract
This paper examines the parallels between Samuel Beckett's first five novels, Murphy, Watt, Molloy, Malone Dies and The Unnamable, and philosophy, arguing that Murphy is best understood as a satire of Descartes, Watt is best understood as a satire of Wittgenstein, and Molloy, Malone Dies and The Unnamable are best understood as a satire of Husserl.
