Richard McCullen C.M.

Abstract

Superior General Richard McCullen gave this homily and two addresses to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and others in 1986. Serving persons who are poor is part of the Vincentian Family’s charism because God asks it, and it is the way to reflect and share his love. Practical action must be combined with love. Seeking justice for the poor is not enough; people can become divided and focused on measurements. Love is unquantified, requiring both humility and seeing poor persons from their own perspective and Christ’s. Action with love brings Christ’s message to the poor while improving their lives in concrete ways.
