Abstract
As a young man, Vincent de Paul was primarily interested in making his fortune. Over time, his focus shifted to evangelizing persons who were poor. Thomas McKenna explores the interior nature of this change and asks why Vincent’s attention was captivated by the poor. Vincent was caught up in God’s love and wanted to be part of it. He saw that love as primarily directed toward the marginalized of society, so loving the poor became the motivation behind his actions.
