Abstract
The history of the Expectacio Israel, the Double Family’s prayer for vocations, is given here, along with commentary on each phrase which traces the prayer’s biblical roots. Superior General Antoine Fiat composed it and Pope Leo XIII granted the indulgence for its use in 1884. It has been recited after the evening general examen since 1909. The original version was written according to the Vulgate translation of the Bible, but the commentary uses the New American Bible.
