Abstract
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus presented the requirements for discipleship. Chief among them was the exhortation to forsake earthly wealth for the treasure of heaven. This is so that our relationship with God will form the center of our lives, and we will be open both to him and to others. Relationships are the treasure of heaven, for it is in them that the ongoing process of conversion occurs in our hearts, in the hearts of those we serve, and in the hearts of those we solicit on behalf of persons who are poor.
