Abstract

Collaboration is part of the legacy of Louise de Marillac and Vincent de Paul. Shaun McCarty discusses exactly what collaboration means in the context of the Vincentian Family and how it should be pursued. He particularly emphasizes reciprocity and cooperative planning and discernment. Since each group within the Vincentian Family has its own focus, each has something unique to contribute to collaborative ministries. Readers are invited to imagine the future of these ministries through an exercise for reflecting on collaborative efforts. This is part of the vital discernment process, which is explored in detail in the rest of the article. Obstacles to collaboration are examined, as are the structure and leadership necessary for success.
