However, I soon realized that, though only 10 years old, Liesel is wise and full of courage around issues about which I care very deeply. In reading The Book Thief, I felt like I wanted to live up to Liesel’s character. I would like to believe that, if I were living then – or if I face circumstances now that demand of my values - I would have the bravery that she demonstrated throughout this beautiful tale.
