Abstract
This collection contains poetry, creative nonfiction and self portraits (photography) that centralize around the Buddhist text entitled THE HEART SUTRA. The speaker navigates this sutra chant by writing about having it tattooed on his back, and explores breaking cycles of violence, abuse and depression. The work draws on the speakers personal experience as a practicing Buddhist, martial artist, transgender and queer person of color.
