Volume 5 focuses on the African heritage of Latin America, the ongoing issues of race and class, and the struggle to recognize and preserve a culturally diverse Latin America. Articles discuss these conditions through the analysis of artists’ works and Latin American music; conference proceedings on the impact of African culture in Cuban society; analysis of the notions of allá y acá (here and there) in the Puerto Rican diaspora; a closer look at the often overlooked African presence in Mexico through the slave trade lens; a film review of Mazamorreo, In Search of Memory/En búsqueda de memoria (a documentary on the Afro-Colombian communities of the Cauca region of Colombia); and an interview with Dr. Fannie Rushing, expert in the topic of African diaspora in Latin America.
