Abstract

Background: Cardiometabolic diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) affect a substantial number of Americans today. A plant-based (vegetarian, vegan) diet (PBD) are a way to better nutritional intake along with preventing or reversing cardiometabolic diseases.

Objective: The objective of this integrative literature review is to examine research that has been conducted on PBD ability to prevent or reverse cardiometabolic diseases such as CVD and T2D.

Methods: Multiple databases were used through DePaul University that included research articles and medical journals that relate to a PBD effect on cardiometabolic diseases. The articles were reviewed and analyzed with inclusion and exclusion criteria to be marked compatible with this literature reviews purpose.

Conclusion: This literature review seeks to find a clear answer and evidence of a PBD ability to prevent or reverse cardiometabolic diseases.
